When many families have suffered brokenness, and others are running hectic schedules, it is important that all Christians find a way of having time with their God. It is necessary for christens families to live as Christians at home even when they attend church and Sunday school on Sundays. It is therefore helpful for family members to gather together for a devotion to their home. Here are some ideas for family devotions. One way of making your devotion effective is by reading the word of God. Start by reading the scripture through focusing on the story first.

When you are conducting a devotion you need to sit around the table all if you and read together. You should know who will read the scriptures as the others sit and listen. It is good for everyone to have the Bible if they are all able to read. You can start having a person read a portion of the scripture as the rest follow on their texts. It is good if all word is read are read as they are supposed and if some people find it hard, they should be assisted by the one leading the devotion.

After reading the portion, test the understanding of everybody by asking what you have read about. Make sure that you all understand the story. You need to find out if the everyone understands the story. Find out if the people can relate what happens in life to some of the happenings in the bible. Find out whether the members can find anything beneficial in the scripture that you have read to their lives. Help the young ones to find something that they can gain from the story.

Ask if the people are learning something that can help them in future. You should all look for a way the bible could help you in future. All the participants should be encouraged to say something that they have seen in the bible and how they intend to apply it in their lives. If every member is encouraged, they will have all something to say. All people should be encouraged even when they make some errors.

A time of praying should be part of the devotion. Just like the reading, during the time of prayer everyone should participate in prayer even if it is two words. After sometime all participants will be able to say a prayer of their choice. A prayer should be said in the beginning and the end. If you are to run an effective devotion; you need to include in the program praying fir needs on the family members. At the same time you need to evaluate the prayers and thank God for the ones He has answered. Dedicate a particular place for your devotion.
